Endometriosis London

The tissue that normally lines the inside of the womb, i.e. the endometrium, attaches and grows out of the cavity of the womb at spots that include the ovaries, the ligaments of the uterus, the appendix, the bowel, the cervix and the wall of the peritoneal cavity. There have also been cases were endometriosis has been presented in the navel and in more remote areas such as the chest and the pericardial cavity. These outbreaks respond to hormonal stimulation during the menstrual cycle, just like the endometrium, and peel off with the period bleeding.

Conditions

  • Severe pain before and during the period – dysmenorrhea.
  • Pain during sexual intercourse or immediately after it.
  • High blood loss during periods or vaginal bleeding during the cycle.
  • Pain on possible ovulation days, i.e. 11 to 17 days in a normal cycle of 28 days.

What are the symptoms of endometriosis?

Endometriosis commonly affects women aged 20-45 and clinical symptoms depend on the positioning and the degree of the extent of the disease. The most typical symptoms are:

  • Severe pain before and during periods – dysmenorrhea.
  • Pain during sexual intercourse or immediately after it.
  • High blood loss during periods or vaginal bleeding during the cycle.
  • Pain on possible ovulation days, i.e. 11 to 17 days in a normal cycle of 28 days.
  • Other symptoms include fatigue, intense back pain and disorders in the intestinal function during periods, such as pain in the bowel, diarrhoea and constipation.

How is endometriosis treated?

Treatment may be pharmaceutical, surgical or a combination of both. Initially, there must be a diagnosis and we need to determine the extent of the disease. After that, we decide the type of treatment which will be commensurate with the age of the patient, the extent of the disease and the desire of procreation (or lack thereof). Pharmaceutical treatment are applied to patients without extensive adhesions who desire to procreate, as well as to women without fertility problems. Surgical treatment is usually laparoscopic and aims to remove or cauterize the visible foci, the lysis of adhesions and finally the restoration of anatomical relations.

Are there any alternative methods for preventing or treating Endometriosis?

There are plenty of Herbal and dietary approaches for preventing the growth and even the existence of the Endometriosis or controlling the symptoms. Even the use of Bio-Identical Hormones is very beneficial when the doctor is detecting Hormonal imbalances as the reason behind the growth.

These treatments are safe and very promising.
